Thank You!

The National Capital Chapter would like to thank everyone who made the 10th Anniversary of the Women on the Move Luncheon a phenomenal success. We garnered the biggest attendance that the event has ever had—in the country. More than 970 people joined the National Capital Chapter to support this historic occasion, bringing in more than $350,000 toward programs and services, as well as research for a cure. It was an exceptional event and the chapter couldn’t have accomplished what it did without the help of Co-Chairs Carrie Marriott and Amy Knight, as well as our speaker, Ann Romney, and moderator, Norah O’Donnell.

Carrie Marriott spoke about her mother’s strength in the midst of having MS and Amy Knight inspired the audience, rising from her wheelchair—with the help of her friend, Mrs. Marriott—to deliver a rousing speech about her personal struggle with MS and the impact that new innovations in medicine are having on her today. Ann Romney continued the discussion, delivering frank and moving responses to CBS’ Norah O’Donnell. One of the most powerful moments came when Mrs. Romney said, “I have MS but everyone has something. It’s all a matter of how you’re going to deal with the cards you have.” She reminded the audience to live intentionally, to recognize their personal struggles and use them to help other people who might be going through the same thing. That’s why this luncheon is so powerful: it showcases the humanity behind MS and what individuals can do when they come together for a common goal.
